Trips & Travel Tax Experience.

Since the pandemic, many employees have the benefit of working from anywhere - but how does that affect their taxes? (Which is the first thing no one thinks of…) Working several days or weeks in another state that you don’t call home, can majorly impact your payroll and taxes.

This company already has a pre-existing and well liked tool to book company travel. So instead of producing a “tax guide”, we created an integrated feature and experience so users can confidently book their travels with taxes never slowing them down.

As a user books their trip, (especially if it’s to the same place over and over), they will have a quick glance into the number of days they’ve worked in that state and if it has the potential to impact their taxes - also known as crossing a state threshold.

Certain states, like New York have a small threshold of 15 days. If the user passes that threshold, but the entire 15 days have been strictly business travel, the employer covers extra fees and taxes. If the user crosses the threshold using ‘working from anywhere’ days, they will be responsible to cover the extra taxes.

The majority of states have larger thresholds, ranging from 30-50 days before extra taxes are required.

Meet Frank.

Frank helps make the idea of travel and how it can impact taxes a little bit easier to digest. He’s a hub of information, accessible throughout the process of booking trips, provides helpful tips, and keeps track of all the user’s information for tax season.

Frank’s got what you need.

Clicking on Frank at any time will direct you to his wealth of knowledge. Here, the user has access to tax documents, payroll, investing and state threshold information.

The Map.

Users can see all their state thresholds in a quick glance - where they’ve traveled too and where they have passed state thresholds. Clicking on a state will provide the user with more information.
